The shrimp industry is entering a new phase, marked by structurally lower prices, tighter margins, and limited prospects for a return to historic highs. In this environment, future profitability depends less on volume growth and more on efficiency and adding value throughout the supply chain. One concept gaining relevance is '100% Shrimp': making full use of shrimp biomass to add additional revenue streams. In most processing plants, of the HOSO raw material that enters the factory, the heads and shells (about 50% of total biomass) are discarded as waste, typically sent to landfill or downgraded to low-value shrimp meal. But what was once overlooked now represents a possible opportunity.
The Global Shrimp Forum Foundation’s '100% Shrimp' report is intended as a starting point -- an invitation to explore how improved by-product utilization could strengthen the industry.
In this webinar, we will discuss the report’s findings, implications, and next steps with Melanie Siggs, author of the report; Dr. Pedram Dehdari, Managing Director of Ensymm and Chief Science Officer of Karmic, Willem van der Pijl, board member of the Global Shrimp Forum Foundation, and Juan Carlos Javier, CEO of Honduran shrimp and meal processor Grupo Granjas Marinas. Additional speakers will be announced.
Undercurrent News' Dan Gibson will host and moderate the session.
